A Note from Heather

I have ONE week of bed rest
left!! Is that even possible? :) I
am so going stir crazy. My contractions have picked up, and I
know it won't be long till I hold baby Savannah in my arms.
Savannah's nursery is ready. However, I still
have to get the essentials like diapers, wipes and several other
odds and ends.
I will be doing that next Wednesday when I am free from bed
rest. Can you believe I haven't eaten out at a restaurant in 7
weeks?
It has to be a record for me.
I have tried to channel my creative energy in designing new sets for
the studio. I am really excited about a new Limited Edition
called Simply Squared. You can see more images on the blog
and more info below. I LOVE how the promo shots turned out.
I have put the finishing touches on the "big project" that I have been
working on. It will be debuted towards the end of August, beginning of
September. I am very excited and know that you will be as well.
We have lots of questions about clothing and other helpful info, so we
have included a section on that as well in this issue. We are
also announcing a AWESOME 8 HOUR SALE!!!
Next issue I will show off my new baby! Yay!!
warmly,
Heather Bookout

Important FAQS
What type of
clothing
looks the best?
Your clothing
is SO important - it can really make your images sing, or it can
produce a sour note that you don't want to remember. We
recommend to AVOID anything smocked, or clothing that looks like
Strausburgs. That style is best for a traditional
photographer. We
photograph in a modern, fresh style and we are NOT traditional.
There are some great traditional studios in town, but it is just
not us.
It is important that you AND your child like the clothing. If
it is uncomfortable for your child to wear, it will show in the images.
Emotions are SO important in photographs. The type of
clothing that looks the best with our style of
photography is modern boutique clothing. Clothing from www.chasing-fireflies.com
or from www.bodenusa.com
looks awesome with our photography. We also love The Gap and
the fun boutique clothing items from Itty Bitty here in Hunstville.

What colors should we wear? For families check out this image
above. See how there is a great balance and no one sticks out and
it feels good. We want you to select clothing like that. If
you are not sure, we will be happy to help you. Bring more than
one selection for each person and we will help you pull it together.
We recommend that you bring colors
that will look good in the family area of your home or the main area
you plan on displaying your images. Whatever color is the
lightest will be the one that stands out the most. So make
sure to put the lighter colors on the children.
When pulling your clothing together think of it as a great blend of
color and texture. This is very similar as to how you would
decorate a room. Try to stick with 3 or 4 complimentary
colors that look great in your home and on you. Laying all
the clothing out on a bed can help you visulize your images.
Why are some of
your images taken on a slant?
We love to be creative and interesting in our photography.
Many times that means to angle the image to make the subject
look more flattering. We do this on purpose to create a
postive tension and interest in our work - similar to what you might
see in a fashion magazine. If you do not like
this look, please let your photographer know at the beginning of your
session.
When is the best
time of day to have my baby photographed?
We recommend that you schedule your appointment time when your baby is
the happiest. (If they get fussy in the afternoon, please
schedule a morning appointment) We want to shoot when your
baby is happy so you get the very best images.
Should I bring
Dad or a Grandparent to the session to help get the baby to smile?
It seems logical to bring someone that illicits the greatest response
from your baby. However we request that you do NOT do that, because
your baby
ends up looking at the family member instead of at the
photographer. Causing us to miss your child's beautiful eyes in
the photographs. Our photographers are GREAT at connecting with
your child, and it's important that there are no distractions between
subject and photogapher. If we do get stuck, we may call on you
for help. We
do all the work to create a fun and happy environment to illicit a
series of different expressions. So you can just sit back,
relax and drink a coke and don't worry about how well your child is
performing. We WILL get some great images!
What can I
bring to make my pictures more meaningful?
We have hundreds of props at the studio to help create a beautiful
scene for your images. However, we love it when clients bring
special items from home. Load up a suitcase or laundry basket
with their bedding, special blocks, timeless toys, heirlooms and if you
have a cool piece of furniture bring that too. The more of your
own things you bring - the more CUSTOM your finished images will be.
a NEW Limited Edition

SIMPLY SQUARED - Friday, June 26th: This first image is from a
set
that we just added to our Limited Editions. It is called Simply
Squared and it is on Friday, June 26th.
This is the latest creative endeavor from Bookout Studios. I was
thinking of a cool set that would look great in my clients homes and go
well with my style. I LOVE, LOVE how it turned out.
You can do your family, kids or baby. We recommend that they are
sitting up, around 6 months or older because of the time constraints.
We have gift certificates available to present to dad on Father's Day,
June 21st. It would make a great set for images with Dad and Me.
Session fee is only $35, call 881-3151 to reserve your spot.

ICE CREAM - Saturday, JUNE 6th:
The next image is from our Ice Cream set. This fun, bright set has a
few spots left this Saturday afternoon, June 6th. We have an orange
couch and a pink couch depending on your clothing color. Your session
will start with fun shots of just your adorable child and end with a
sweet treat of vanilla ice cream with sprinkles. Call 881-3151 to
reserve your spot. Session fee is only $35.
LITTLE BALLERINAS - July 11th: This set is going to be
beautiful
and stunning with a rich textured chocolate background with rubbed
bronze. We have all the tutus you will need or you can bring
your
own.
LITTLE MEN - July 25th: This is will be neutral so no matter
what
your little guy wants to dress up like it will look amazing.
Some
great ideas would be doctors, train engineers, fireman, policeman or
anything else your little man dreams of being. (Girls are of
course welcomed too.)
FRESH LEMONADE - August 22nd: An old-fashioned lemonade stand,
this set will be all white and
with
Lemon accents. It will be timeless and beautiful.
We
recommend dressing your children all in white for this fresh Limited
Edition.

A Photography Tip for
Moms
June's photography tip is about
selecting the best area to photograph your child. The very best
spot to photograph anyone would be in open shade outside or on a
overcast day. Look at the light on your child's face and position
them so the have an abundance of even lighting on their face with no
sun spots (sunlight poking through tree leaves - BAD!). This will
help your camera acheive better focus, and will eliminate the need of a
flash which can make your images look bad. You also want to
position your subject so they are not squinting in the sunlight.
You can shoot inside near a window using this same technique. Use
a white sheet over the window to diffuse the sunlight, making the light
more even on your subject. This will help you create much better
images. :)
